San Francisco is a wonderful place for networking.

  1. Meetups:

Meetups have become so common that they are a necessary part of San Franciscans. There is even a mobile application “Meetups” to gather all information for convenience. Meetups are formed based on interests. Attending meetups is an opportunity to connect like-minded people. I have been to Tap San Francisco (astronomy meetup), Hardware meetup, and even Corgi meetup.

2. Networking events:

Networking events are prevalent in the Bay Area. At least once a week, Facebook would suggest upcoming networking nights for students and professionals. They are must-attend events for those hunting for jobs or internships, and those who just want to… chill after long day of work. To name a few, I have been to Startup bus info night and Hackaday party.

3. Conference:

Concentrated the most engineers of the nation, San Francisco is home to the biggest conference of any field. It is a place to meet other professionals, exchange ideas, and develop technical expertise. During my internship, I was fortunate to attend AWE 2017 (The largest AR + VR event in the world), and Maker Faire 2017, where people “celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects, and Do-It-Yourself mindset”.

4. Special for interns:

As a tradition, San Francisco and Bay area, filled with plenty opportunities, are favorite destinations for interns. Summer interns from around the world converge at the heart of technology hub. Recognizing this trend, companies organize open houses, Cisco Meraki, Twitter, Data io, Blend, etc., for interns to attract future engineers. Also, Internapalooza is an annual gathering for interns of the entire area. It provides free food (Interns love it), career fair, and free swags (and of course the opportunity to converse with other interns).
